The Old World

The Airship Record

Airships were real, and they were photographed over cities, at masts and on the roofs of shops. This is the picture record, with each craft and each building named wherever the record names them.

A long airship marked US Navy hangs level from a mast on a tanker, with hills beyond.

Airships were real, and crowds stood under them. From about 1900 to 1937 they were photographed over capitals, at mooring masts, inside great sheds and, a few times, on the roofs of shops.

This page gathers 316 pictures from museums, libraries and archives, with the craft and the building named wherever the record names them. Filter them by what the airship was doing at the building, and by what kind of picture it is. Most old postcards carry no word on how the airship got there, so those say Not stated.

Tartaria's Airships and the Zeppelin Over the Leipzig Monument

Tartaria videos, led by a January 2026 Tartaria Vault film seen more than 115,000 times, say airships lifted the great buildings of the 1880s into place and vanished after 1912. This investigation sets that claim beside the dated record of real airships from 1852 to 1937, a 1914 Leipzig postcard and the 1896 sightings, and ends on what is still missing: one traced picture.
