Tabby's Star and the Dips Announced in 2015
KIC 8462852, called Tabby's Star after the astronomer Tabetha Boyajian, is an ordinary-looking star about 1,470 light-years away in Cygnus. Kepler saw its light drop by up to about 20 percent in irregular dips, and in October 2015 Jason Wright said the pattern looked like something an alien civilisation might build. Here is the find, the megastructure idea, the dust explanation that followed, and what is still not known.
